Admission Requirements
In addition to the admission criteria set forth by Graduate Division, applicants to the Ph.D. program in Earth System Science will be expected to submit the following:
- Statement of Purpose – A statement focuses on your scientific aspirations. It should explain your research interests, long-term career goals, and why you want to pursue the Ph.D.
- Personal History Statement – Optional by strongly recommended
- Curriculum Vitae – A brief account of your educations, qualifications, and previous experiences
- Letters of Recommendation – A minimum of three letters are required
- Unofficial Transcript – Submit one unofficial transcript for every post-secondary institution attended.
- TOEFL/IELTS Scores – Required for International applicants.
Deadline
Applications for Fall 2027 may be submitted starting October 1st and will be reviewed beginning December 1st. Admission decisions are made on a rolling basis. Applicants are encouraged to apply by December 1st for the best chance of admission. The final deadline for applications is January 18th, 2027.
English Proficiency Requirement for Teaching Assistantships
Earth System Science Ph.D. students are required to serve as Teaching Assistant during the duration of the program. All students must satisfy UCI Graduate Division’s English Proficiency for Teaching Assistantships.
