Physical Sciences Story Hour

January 29, 2021 | 5:00 p.m. - 6:15 p.m. PDT

Calling all science storytellers! It's hard to do anything well, and science communication is no exception. That's why we're hosting a new monthly event: Physical Sciences Story Hour. It's a SciComm open-mic night, Zoom-style. You'll have five minutes (though you don't have to use that whole time) to practice telling the story of your science in whatever way you want, using only what you might carry onto a stage with you. It could be a poem, it could be a song or a tale read aloud. Whatever it is, the one requirement is that you tell your science story in a way that gets the essential idea behind your work to the audience. You can prepare as much or as little as you want to for this. When you're done, because we're all works in progress, we'll open the floor to friendly feedback from the audience — as well as our Sr. Science Writer, Lucas Joel — on how your science storytelling might level up.

The Department of Earth System Science acknowledges our presence on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Acjachemen and Tongva peoples, who still hold strong cultural, spiritual and physical ties to this region.
