Title: Timescales of carbon cycling in the Amazon
Abstract: I will briefly present the Amazon Tall Tower Observatory, a joint German-Brazilian project to study land-atmosphere-climate interactions across spatial scales over (hopefully) decades. Then I will briefly highlight recent results from ATTO related to carbon cycling in the Amazon: (1) the effect of the 2023 drought of local to Basin-scale C fluxes; (2) the use of radiocarbon ‘Keeling plots' to estimate the transit time of carbon in tropical forests and (3) the increased wind throw disturbance at the Basin scale and where it might play a role in regional C dynamics.
