Position description

The Department of Earth System Science (ESS) at the University of California, Irvine, is recruiting an Assistant Professor (tenure track) with a research focus in atmospheric science. Areas of interest include (though are not limited to) the study of changes in atmospheric composition and chemistry, aerosols, clouds, radiative transfer, forcing and feedback of climate change, and the design of policy solutions to achieve long-term stability of the Earth System. Exploration of these areas may include the use of global models, satellite remote sensing of greenhouse gases, reactive gases, or aerosols, and the analysis of in-situ observations.

We make this appointment with the goal of strengthening the department’s commitment to research and teaching. UC Irvine’s ESS department was founded to explore the global environmental changes that occur on human time scales. The department has expanded its domain with 27 faculty from diverse backgrounds (http://www.ess.uci.edu/). The successful applicant will have a doctoral degree and research experience in the atmospheric sciences or a related field, a clear vision for a dynamic research program, evidence of excellence in teaching, and a strong commitment to strengthening diversity and inclusive excellence within the department and the university. The position will be available starting July 1, 2024.
UCI is a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI) and an Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution (AANAPISI).
