Spring Research Assistantship & Community Liaison

Water Justice in Orange County
10-20 hrs/wk, Recent graduates & Current students may apply
Across California, some local governments struggle to ensure safe drinking water. Impacts of insufficient and deteriorating infrastructure disproportionately affect marginalized communities.
A new UCI project will assess community trust in tap water and channels available to voice concerns. As part of this study, household interviews in Orange County will identify drivers of tap water distrust - perceived ability to convey concerns, satisfaction with local institutions, and effectiveness of social accountability actions. Interviews will examine how access to safe water is shaped by accountability, which includes practices at water systems respond to customer concerns and to build community trust. This project will shed light on management failures that cause inequities in drinking water and public health.
This is a paid position (10-20 hours/wk), from April 3 to June 30. Possibility of extending through the summer. Recent UCI graduates preferred, who are looking to gain community research experience. Remote work arrangements are possible.

Responsibilities:
• Outreach to OC community groups to recruit for interviews
• Manage recruitment and selection of interview participants
• Option to participate in household interviews

Qualifications:
• Excellent time management & communication
• Experience managing datasets
• Ability to work independently
