Title: Modeling and mapping nature’s contribution to humans

Abstract: Natural capital provides important ecosystem services and benefits, with some, such as air pollutant and heat reductions, being linked to improved human health and well-being. My talk will focus on previous work modeling the ecosystem services and benefits of urban trees in New York City (NYC). I will also talk about our ongoing work in the Tahoe Central Sierra Initiative (TCSI) and how we are using machine learning and social media data to improve our mapping of cultural ecosystem services.

The Department of Earth System Science acknowledges our presence on the ancestral and unceded territory of the Acjachemen and Tongva peoples, who still hold strong cultural, spiritual and physical ties to this region.
