This formula was taken from the uv-vis.txt file which accompanies the CPFM data from the ASHOE/MAESA campaign on the NASA ftp server. The value of 4.1$^{\circ }$ is related to the angle between the diffuser normal and the vertical which was modified in subsequent campaigns (C.T. McElroy, 1998, personal communication). See Section 6.5.3 for further information.

As mentioned in Section 3.2, the value of 4.1$^{\circ }$ may not be correct. However, as the calibration correction term, $\Delta{\rm EA}$, is a constant, this introduces no further complications as any error in $4.1^{\circ}$ is absorbed into $\Delta{\rm EA}$. The correct formula will be used for journal publication.
