Tornadoes
q Tornadoes are zones of extremely rapid,
rotating winds beneath the base of
cumulonimbus clouds.
q Strong counterclockwise (in N.H.) winds
originate in relation to large pressure
gradients over small spatial scales.
q Pressure differences may be as much as 100
mb over a few tenths of km.
