Basic Conservation Laws
Atmospheric
motions are governed by three fundamental physical principles:
•conservation of mass
(continuity equation)
•conservation of momentum (Newton’s 2nd law of
motion)
•conservation of energy (1st law of
thermodynamics)
We need to develop mathematical
formulas to describe these basic laws.
