Works to identify (i) how microorganisms respond and genetically adapt to environmental variations and (ii) the biogeochemical role of this biodiversity.
Research focuses on marine bacteria.
Work is central to identifying present day global cycles of carbon, nitrogen and phosphorus, as well as to identifying and predicting future impacts of climate change on the Earth as a system.
