The impacts of quasi-biennial oscillation (QBO) on the boreal-winter Madden-Julian oscillation (MJO) and its prediction
The Madden-Julian Oscillation (MJO) is a day-to-day variability of organized tropical deep convection. Recent studies have shown that this convective variability is significantly modulated by the stratospheric Quasi-Biennial Oscillation (QBO). Due to the wide impacts of the MJO on the tropics and extratropics, understanding the QBO-MJO relationship is important. Based on my Ph.D. dissertation work, I will present the QBO-MJO relationship and its application on the subseasonal-to-seasonal (S2S) prediction.
