Title: The Changing Seascape of Ocean Science Research

Abstract: Environmental science as a research field is undergoing a dramatic transformation with the advent of new observational technologies, advances in “big data” analysis tools and Earth System modeling, and the rise of major research challenges that cross natural and social sciences to address pressing societal problems including climate change and ocean acidification.  The talk will illustrate the shifting nature of environmental research drawing examples from oceanography and carbon cycle science.
