Planned Contributions
Pre-Campaign
- Assess the influence of long-range transport and different source
regions and types on air arriving over the campaign region by using
inert and e-folding tracers with GCM meteorology.
- Start building a more detailed 3-D chemical climatology for the region.
During Campaign
- Provide a 3-D chemical climatology for springtime in East Asia based
on meteorology from previous years using GISS GCM and ECMWF Integrated
Forecast System (IFS) met fields.
- Meteorological parameters (3-hourly)
- Chemical species concentrations (3-hourly)
- Chemical budget diagnostics (3-hourly)
Data will be available; GrADs and Vis5D visualization of fields.
- Compare archived climatology with current and forecast met fields;
use as a zeroth-order forecast system.
- Supplement forecast runs from other groups with chemical budgets
- Provide field support for chemical modelling
- Ability to run model on-site with quick-turnaround to provide
additional information
- 'Old' meteorology only - no real-time forecasts
Post-Campaign
- Obtain ECMWF IFS met fields for the campaign period.
- Derive detailed chemical budgets for the period, to determine how
different source regions and emission types affect the tropospheric
oxidizing capacity in Asian outflow and over the Pacific.
- Use campaign observations with sensitivity studies to understand
how different source regions and emission types in Asia are responsible
for primary and secondary pollutants over the Pacific.
- More detailed analysis of the coupling of meteorological and chemical
processes in affecting composition for the air masses sampled during
aircraft flights.
