Research Interests

My main interests lie in tropical dynamics, the variability and tracking of convection within the tropics and the interaction between weather events and the large-scale flow.

My current work is in collaboration with the Department of Statistics and the Department of Computer Science at the University of California, Irvine. We are using a statistical model with automated reasoning to determine the location of the Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ) in the Pacific, with the view to building a climatology of the feature from satellite records.

The model is named LIMA: Labeling the ITCZ using MRF algorithm

Ongoing and past research also includes:

  - West African monsoon and nocturnal boundary layer
  - Dynamics of African Easterly Waves
  - Soil moisture interactions with mesoscale and synoptic scale
