Join our group as a Postdoc

A postdoctoral scholar position is available in the Department of Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine in the laboratory of Dr. Eric Rignot on topics related to numerical ice sheet modeling and satellite data assimilation. The applicant will work on an EAGER NSF project to develop a full Stokes solver and participate in the open sourcing of the JPL/UCI Ice Sheet System Model (ISSM). This work will be done in coordination with Dr. Eric Larour at the Caltech Jet Propulsion Laboratory, main architect of ISSM, and in collaboration with Dr. Alexandru Nicolau and Dr. Alexander Veidenbaum from the Department of Computer Science at UC Irvine.

A Ph.D. in mathematics, computer science, earth system science, or a related discipline is required.  Experience with Finite Element Methods is required. Experience with model development is desired, along with knowledge of C/C++ and Matlab programming languages. The successful candidate will have excellent written and oral communication skills, along with demonstrated ability to work well in a collaborative environment.
