How to Apply
Thank you for your interest in the Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Earth System Science at the University of California, Irvine. For more than a decade, we have been preparing students just like you to make a difference as scientists, researchers, and teachers. Upon completion of the program, you will have acquired an in-depth understanding of the science of the Earth as a system, and developed the skills necessary to study and understand complex interactions within and between the atmosphere, ocean, cryosphere and terrestrial biosphere. Your exciting graduate study journey begins with an application to the program.
Applications to the Ph.D. program are submitted using the official UC Irvine Online Application Program.
Deadline: January 15
A completed application consists of the following:
- Application Fee
- GRE Scores
- TOEFL or IELTS (see requirements)
- Letters of Recommendation
- Transcripts

Academic Qualifications:
Students with a bachelor's degree in any field of geophysical or environmental science, including atmospheric science, oceanography, geophysics, and geology are encouraged to apply. Applicants with degrees in physics, chemistry, engineering, mathematics, and computer science are particularly encouraged. Applications from other fields will be considered if the student has a sufficient background in the sciences.
