Collaborative Projects

ESS Faculty, Staff and Students want to make a difference! Members of the department volunteer time and energy to support UC Irvine-based collaborative projects.

Here are some programs UC Irvine offers for student and community outreach:

UC Irvine Center for Educational Partnerships

The University of California Irvine's Center for Educational Partnerships creates collaborations that support preparation for and success in higher education. Their focus is on equity and access for all students in order to achieve the University of California's goal of academic excellence. There are many different programs available through this center, so look through their website to find something that fits you!

UC Irvine Cal Teach

The University of California launched the California Teach Science and Math Initiative in 2005 in response to the critical shortage of highly qualified math and science teachers in the state. The need is expected to increase with an anticipated wave of teacher retirements. The initiative’s strategies are to: a) offer undergraduates opportunities to explore math and science teaching as a career option; and b) offer degree program options that combine a bachelor’s degree in math, the sciences, or a related discipline with teacher education coursework.  There are always many opportunities to learn about this wonderful program, so check out their website to see how you can get involved.  We also have some reading materials about the Cal Teach Program here in the main ESS office.

UC Irvine Center for Service in Action (formerly Volunteer Center)

The Center for Service in Action promotes volunteerism, recognizing the important role community service and experiential learning plays in the education of students. Programs and services encourage students to develop a sense of civic responsibility through meaningful and mutually beneficial service, and education about social concerns. There are tons of ways for students to get involved in volunteering. There is even a way to receive class credit for your efforts!
