The generous support of the Jenkins family has produced significant advances in the Department of Earth System Science.  We are grateful not only for the family’s financial contributions but also for their genuine interest in Earth system science. The Jenkins family has helped ESS create opportunities for new graduate student research projects and other special initiatives that would otherwise not have been possible.

Program Overview

Aligning our strategic goals of increasing enrollment and funding while continuing to recruit the most talented graduate students, beginning 2014-15 several incoming students are awarded fellowships each year thanks to the generosity of the Jenkins family. The Jenkins Family have been long time supporters of the Department of Earth System Science, taking a special interest in the discipline, students, and research they support.

Jenkins Fellows are selected based on academic record as well as a compelling research interest that they are passionate about sharing with the Jenkins Family and others.  Support is for one quarter and the recipient is asked to provide updates on significant research milestones to the department throughout their career.  These updates are reflected on the department’s website and serve as a reminder of the contributions the Jenkins Family have made to the field and the Department of Earth System Science at UCI.

The Jenkins Fellowship previously provided support for advanced ESS graduate students studying in the areas of terrestrial ecology or biogeochemisty.
