Communicating Science Training Workshop

Communicating Science Workshop for Grad Students

We are excited to announce our Communicating Science Training Workshop on Thursday, May 3rd, 1pm-5pm in the Student Center. This workshop will focus on presentation and writing techniques to effectively communicate scientific research in all disciplines. The workshop is interactive and hands-on, led by Dennis Meredith, author of Oxford Press Explaining Research: How to Reach Key Audiences to Advance Your Work. Mr. Meredith has had a long career as a science communicator, including service at MIT, Caltech, Cornell, Duke and the University of Wisconsin. He has worked with science journalists at all of the nation's major newspapers, magazines, and radio and TV networks and has written well over a thousand news releases and magazine articles on science and engineering over his career.

The Newkirk Center and Sponsors will be covering the cost of attendance so that students can participate free of charge. Graduate students from across campus are invited. Desserts and refreshments will be served. Please see the attached flyer and visit www.newkirkcenter.uci.edu for more details.

Because of the interactive nature of the workshop, space is limited, so please RSVP as early as possible at newkirk@uci.edu.
Undergraduates with a specific interest can contact the Newkirk Center about attending.

A special thanks goes out to the UCI Libraries, David Lang & Julia Gelfand, the Center for Learning in the Arts, Sciences & Sustainability, the UCI Graduate Division, and the UCI Sigma Xi Chapter.
