EarthSS Academic Programs
The Department of Earth System Science (ESS) offers a variety of courses, which can be applied to a Degree in ESS or General Education Requirements for non-ESS majors.
Degrees Available:
- Earth System Science (Ph.D.)
- Earth and Environmental Science (B.S.)
- Earth and Environmental Studies (B.A.)

Category II: Science and Technology
Any three courses selected from Earth System Science 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 15, 17 or H90 -
Category VIII: International / Global Issues
Earth System Science 15, 17
Undergraduate courses (ESS 1-199) emphasize an understanding of the basic science involved in global change of the Earth's atmosphere, oceans, biosphere and soils.
Graduate core courses (ESS 200-399) provide incoming graduate students with a comprehensive overview of Earth System Science through the application of physics, chemistry and biology to the study of the interacting ocean, atmosphere, land, and climate systems.
