Qualifications: 

ELIGIBILITY
1. Students must currently be studying the fields of environmental science, policy, research, design, law, and/or
other related disciplines.
2. Students must attend a four-year college/university or graduate program located within Orange County.
3. Applicants must have been enrolled in an environmental major at an Orange County school during the 2012-
2013 school year. Current high school seniors, incoming transfers from an unrelated major, or incoming
transfers from a non-Orange County school are not eligible for the scholarship program.
4. A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0 is required.
5. Each scholarship winner must provide proof of enrollment for Fall 2013 before the award is disbursed.

Funding Provided: 

The following awards will be available through the 2013 Scholarship Program:
• $2,500 award for a full-time graduate student (12 units or more)
• $1,000 award for a part-time graduate student (6 to 11 units)
• $1,500 award for a full-time undergraduate student (12 units or more)

HOW TO APPLY
The application form is available for download in MS Word format at www.ocaep.com. All application materials must be postmarked by June 30, 2013 for consideration by the OCAEP Scholarship Committee.
Notification of awards will be made by August 15, 2013. Refer to the application form for a detailed description of the application process and requirements – official transcripts, a written essay, and letters of recommendation are necessary.

Link Foundation OEI Ph.D. Fellowship Program

In brief, the Link Foundation is offering $26,000, 1-year Ph.D. fellowships
to support research related to all areas of ocean engineering and ocean
instrumentation (which includes the development of instrumentation to
support oceanographic research). The fellowships are tenable at any
university in the US and Canada and do not have any restrictions on

(Please note: the applicant must have already been accepted into a Ph.D. program.)

  • Fellows must be enrolled on a full-time basis for the duration of the award.
Funding Provided: 
  • The award consists of $26,000 and can be used towards:
  • The Fellow’s academic year and summer stipend.
  • Expenses associated with the Fellow’s research (e.g. supplies, equipment, computing charges).
  • To support the Fellow’s attendance at one or more technical meetings and/or to defray the cost of publishing the Fellow’s research results.
Application Method: 

Applications will be evaluated by a panel of experts in the fields of ocean engineering and ocean instrumentation. The main criteria for evaluation include:

1. The project – Is it innovative? Is it technically sound?
2. The candidate – Important criteria include intellectual ability and achievement, evidence of creativity and initiative, and potential for a career that will impact ocean engineering and instrumentation.

Preference will be given to candidates who have a well-defined thesis direction, but who still have enough remaining time to work toward their Ph.D. such that the receipt of a Link Foundation Fellowship could make a difference.

Navy Oceanography

Working in the oceanogrpahy and meteorology field, you'll have the everyday responsiblity of supplying important information needed to complete critical Navy missions.  Helping guide our ships, aircrafts and troops with recommendations based on weather forecasts and ocean conditions.  Relaying forecast updates and weather warnings to military and civilian authorities.  Preparing ocean, sea and waterway charts and maps for anything from basic navigation to search and resure efforts.
