ESS Undergraduate Research Program
 



Objectives:

 
  • to enhance the training of future earth explorers at UCI
  • to provide field-based opportunities for UCI ESS majors
  • to increase participation of underrepresented students in the earth sciences
  • to provide summer and academic-year research opportunities to undergraduates
  • to introduce students to earth scientists working in a wide variety of private, public, and government enterprises
  • to provide faculty with the proper supplies and scientific instruments to conduct meaningful and exciting classes

Students:

Research Opportunities:

Paid research internships are available for underrepresented students (as determined by NASA guidelines).  Click

Careers Course:

A careers course (ESS 192) will be offered once a year to introduce students to job opportunities and career paths in the environmental science industry.


      
Faculty:
Field Trips:

Through this program, faculty can plan field trips for their classes that bring students in direct contact with the environment and provide active research opportunities.

Laboratory/Class supplies:

Faculty can request purchases of scientific items that enhance the classroom and/or lab experience of their undergraduate students.


Employers:

Careers course:

Companies are encouraged to participate in our careers course.  Representatives can come and address our students about their company and job opportunities.

Job Opportunities:

 
Companies are able to send us any job openings or posting that our students may be able to fill and we can provide our students with that information.
